A new kind of nemesis?

June 25th, 2008 · No Comments

In this day and age, hybrid/electric cars are becoming more prevalent for commuters (and rightly so). However it appears as though there’s an interesting side effect for cyclists (and pedestrians for that matter).
Let me setup the scene.
I was riding along the Burke the other morning, crossing on 40th Ave NE (near Metropolitan Market). […]

Gene over at BikingBis has a great write up of the Seattle Likes Bikes protest ride regarding the new Seattle Streetcar which happened today.

Up to 100 An esimated 40 to 60 bicyclists showed up for the ride, with plenty of police on hand. The bicyclists say the city hasn’t done enough, in fact has […]

How do you handle dangerous intersections?

November 12th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I was browsing around this morning and came across this picture of Interstate Avenue in Portland (thanks to Joby from .83) and thought it was very interesting how PDX handles dangerous intersections vs how SEA does. Granted I don’t know the fully history of the Interstate Ave intersection and how long it’s been […]

Bicyclist shot with BB pellets

November 4th, 2007 · No Comments

The Seattle PI reports

A West Seattle bicyclist is recuperating after someone shot him with a BB gun late Thursday on his regular commute home in what appears to be a random attack.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said Mark Thomas, a friend of the victim. “It feels like it’s an assault on cyclists everywhere.”
The BB pellets hit […]

Two men in their 20s […]

Cascade on Stone Way

August 1st, 2007 · No Comments

Most people don’t normally spend a lot of time thinking about the configuration of the roads on which they drive or walk. But the factors that you nevertheless register subconsciously – the width of the lanes, […]

Keeping it real (out there)

July 4th, 2007 · No Comments

I’m feeling compelled to post about this real quick. In the past two months I’ve seen firetrucks and ambulances on the Burke assisting bikers in biker/biker and biker/pedestrian accidents.
I’m sure it’s somewhat common, but in the five years that I’ve been commuting on the BGT ( ~16,000 miles) I’ve only seen this […]

Give Three Feet.

May 14th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Too often cars and bicycles come precariously close to each other and bicyclists need at least three feet between them and a passing car to be safe. Three feet is the minimum distance that motorists should allow; even more space is truly appreciated by cyclists commuting or recreating on our cities’ streets.
So, please do whatever […]
