The Bikery offers Free Bicycle Maintenance Workshop

June 8th, 2007 · No Comments

On Saturday, June 23rd, the Bikery is offering a free Bicycle Maintenance Workshop from 2-5pm at the Garfield Community Center in the Central District. This event is free and open to the public. Just bring your bike and any parts you will need. The Bikery will provide all tools, and they will teach you how to use them.

With gas prices spiraling out of control, bicycles will become an ever more important transportation option. Learn how to perform basic maintenance, and get advice with local individuals that are experts at navigating Seattle streets on bicycle.

The Bikery is a new local organization that envisions a vibrant bicycling culture in the Seattle area where everyone has access to bicycle knowledge and resources regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, class, or any other boundaries. Their mission is to cultivate the personal, social, and environmental benefits of bicycling through collaborative, hands-on education on bikes and biking. The Bikery has weekly bicycle maintenance workshops each Sunday, as well as other educational programs each month.

The Bikery hosts a weekly bike maintenance drop-in clinic each Saturday from 2-5pm, and one Saturday each month the clinic is replaced with a workshop which has a special theme. On May 20th the bike maintenance workshop was focused on teaching bike skills to women and transgendered individuals, and in conjunction with that event, The Bikery hosted an open forum on where sexism and bicycling intersect.

More information about The Bikery and their programs can be found at www.thebikery.org and at http://myspace.com/bikery. Questions may be sent to info@thebikery.com .
