Event wrap up

December 17th, 2006 · No Comments

I was able to attend a couple of bike events this week, each of which are almost at polar opposite ends of the cycling spectrum.

Tuesday night was a Metal Cowboy talk (Joe Kurmaskie) who went over his latest tour (with his kids) across the USA. Be sure to check out Momentum is your friend if you’re interested. I’ve read his other books and they make for a good read.

He is a pretty energetic guy, and you can’t help but get jazzed about getting on your bike hearing him talk about his experiences and adventures. Trust me it’ll make you want to take up bike touring. If you’re looking for one to do, Adventure cycling has a great list of supported tours throughout the country.

He is also doing something called Camp Creative, which is an Oregon (Gorge) based charitable summer camp for kids ages 7-18. Emphasis is on arts and safe project themed expeditions. Many more details in the above url.

Last night was the evening with Tyler Farrar, which was held at the Herriot Sports Institute. A handful of people showed up (interestingly all guys) to hear him talk about life on the european circuit, how he trains, where he grew up, and all of that. It was interesting to just see what a pro rider looks like. Body composition, height, how much he trains, and all that. He sounds pretty grounded, and has a bright future ahead of him. I also grew up in Wenatchee, so I tip my hat to you and wish you the best of luck.

Tyler said he’ll be doing a few of the classics this spring, with a build up to riding the Giro this year.

The other interesting bit, a few of the guys who are behind the Institute did a short talk on what they do and what the institute is all about. I’ve got to say it is terribly intriguing. There was so much information coming out that I couldn’t really digest it all in one sitting.

I’ve asked and they’ve agreed to let me do a company profile, so look for that sometime in January.
