Assistance request for Tour of the Evergreens

November 30th, 2006 · No Comments

This isn’t directly related to just the Seattle cycling scene, but this request came across a local cycling mailing list. It seems best to get the word out as much as possible.

A request has been made to better identify legislative district areas.

The following link shows the *proposed* first year route of the Tour of the Evergreens:

If you live in the proximity of any of this route and interested in helping out, please reply to evergreenstour|at|gmail.com. Provide them with the requested information below. They’ll help you figure out who your legislators are, and which ones need to be contacted.

Their current plan is to start up Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) who will be able to more effectively interface with the various Host Communities, and plan the local festivities around the Tour of the Evergreens. For example, an LOC may want to organize amature bike racing in the community the evening of the race. They may host a parade, hold Kids’ Bike Rodeos, hold a “celebrity bike race” prior to the arrival of the Pro race, put on a carnival at the Finish areas, or promote other activities such as a wine tasting tour in the area.

The Tour organizers are working with the Washington Sports Commissions across the state to assist in organizing the LOCs and to reach out to the state legislators. They need to present an organized, unified front to legislators across the board. The LOCs will coordinate with Convention and Visitors’ Bureaus, Chambers of Commerce, and Sports Commissions. The Tour of the Evergreens Steering Committee will oversee the big picture, with the LOCs reporting in to them.

It is important that the legislators are approached after there is a bill under consideration and not before. Currently, the Tour organizers are simply gathering the names and contact info (email) of people who are willing to assist so that when we are ready, it will be a simple matter to get the word out through the LOCs.

Please do not contact your legislator until it is known which bill it is that Tour organizers are requesting support for. Here is the information the Tour organizers need:
Name:
City:
Zip:
Email:
Interested in:
Legislative assistance: (Yes/No)
Local Organizing Committee: (Yes/No)
Other (Please specify):

Send that information to evergreenstour|at|gmail.com

The Tour organizers have made it clear that your information will NOT be sold nor published on a web site. You won’t be put on any mass-mailing lists.
