Getting There: Cars in bike lane a hazard to cyclists
“A Green Lake resident, says he always sees cars at rush hour driving in the marked bicycle lane on Northeast Ravenna Boulevard around Interstate 5.
The solid white lane, marking the bike lane, doesn’t turn into a dotted line, delineating it as a combined left turn and bicycle lane, until about 100 feet before each intersection.
“In spite of this,” Braun says, “drivers disregard the signs and striping and drive in the bicycle lanes illegally, sometime for an entire block or two, until they make the left turn. I occasionally bike this section of roadway as well, and this scares me.”
He asks, “Are there plans to install some sort of physical barrier between the bike lane and motor vehicle lane, such as a raised curb? … If not, could the Police Department target this area for enforcement and issue tickets until people get the idea?”"
