Bicyclists face rough ride in region

April 17th, 2006 · No Comments

It’s not easy navigating the streets of the Puget Sound region on a bike, according to the Cascade Bicycle Club, which recently mapped out a 1,521-mile bicycle network and found that 27 percent of the area’s roads and trails aren’t suitable for cycling.

Seattle PI: Cycling in the region.

I guess I didn’t realize it was so bad. Granted most of my commute is on the BGT (I have done plenty of rides through Kirkland, Bellevue, I-90, (downtown or along Lk. Wash. Blvd) and things have seemed fairly ok to me.

I think reading ‘The Art of Urban Cycling’ has changed my perspective on this quite a bit, and in a positive way. Review of this book is the next post so more on that soon.

I haven’t had a chance to go through the whole Cascade report yet but you may want to look it over to get some perspective on where they are coming from.
