Another shot at defeating the cold weather

February 16th, 2006 · 1 Comment

I tried my other line of defense yesterday (for the cold fingers), that being double gloving it. Didn’t really work.

Another item in the christmas stocking was a few of the Heat Treat Warmers. So I figured I’d try that out, mainly out of curiousity since it may keep my palm warm but not my fingers.

Being the newbie that I am, I didn’t really read the instructions until I was just about to get on the bike. Turns out they’re air activated. Further they work best if they’re in a pocket of air (think coat pocket here). So I opened it up and just put it in one of my gloves (top of the hand) and took off.

It didn’t ever warm up, and rightly so since there wasn’t much air in there to begin with.

Once I got to work, I threw it onto the desk before heading down for a shower. When I got back it was all nice and toasty warm.

They supposedly last for 7+ hours, so it’s in my back pocket as I type. It feels good. Now if they’d just make them reusable.

These folks make a reusable handwarmer. You drop them in boiling water to recharge them.

What I use for cold weather is military surplus wool gloves under a loose fitting nylon shell glove.
